Underwater Photography
Professional Photography Service | Tips & Techniques | Equipment
My private guide service provides photographers, both professional and amateur the opportunity to get the most from every dive. Each day I select the dive site which I believe to have the best conditions for the sort of photography you are set up for. If you’re shooting macro then I select reefs where you have an increased chance of finding macro species, if you’re using standard or wide angle then I go for the reefs with sweeping banks, pinnacles or overhangs.
In water - Diving without a group means you don’t need to think about anyone else or concern yourself with keeping up with a divemaster or group. You can concentrate on your photography. When you find something special then you can spend five minutes, ten minutes or as much time as you want on one spot getting that special photo. Many keen photographers realize that for every ten underwater photos you take, one is composed correctly and taken well. Having the time to relax and compose your photographs increases the number of successful shots. While you’re concentrating on your shots I’ll skirt around the area and act as a spotter looking for the next interesting subject matter. No groups also mean you don’t have to contend with other divers pushing in to get their shot, or stirring up sand and ruining the water clarity. It’s this level of freedom which has helped many of my clients to produce some of their best ever photographs. You can see some of their work in the Caribstu Photo Gallery.
On board - I keep a freshwater wet-box for your camera and a freshwater solar shower for rinsing down. My boat is equipped with a permanent hood for sun/rain protection and a sun-shaded stern where there is a non-slip base area for you to work on your camera in comfort, whilst at sea.
