Tobago Hotels

North End

Charlottevilla, Charlotteville. This is a nice clean comfortable villa divided into three self catering apartments. The ground level has two separate apartments, “garden suite” and “river suite” each are self contained with en suite and sleeps two persons with the option of a third. The upper level known as “the owners suite” which sleeps four is a home away from home two bedroom apartment with fitted kitchen, dining room and spacious open balcony. The villa is nestled in its own grounds where the tropical rainforest meets the beach and the Caribbean sea. Charlottevilla is definitely the ideal place for those who do not want a hotel but rather are looking to get away from it all. The Villa can be rented as individual apartments, or as a whole villa, extra beds can be provided upon request for small groups sleeping up to ten. Recommended. www.charlottevilla.com.

Top River Pearl, Charlotteville. Set in the back of village this small but cozy guesthouse has all the sights and sounds of village life and a fantastic panoramic view of Man of War bay. Rooms are small but comfortably furnished. There are four self contained double rooms with en suite and one two room apartment with fitted kitchen, dining room and balcony. A fantastic view, three minute walk to the beach and small in house restaurant makes it an ideal retreat. Recommended. www.topriver.com

Sharon & Pheobe’s, Charlotteville. Set on the edge of the rainforest at the back of the village this is a two self contained apartment guesthouse. Very nice rooms. Owned and run by Sharon Benjamin, proprietor of Sharon & Phoebe’s restaurant (see review ) the guesthouse is an extension of the owners private home, so although you have privacy you also get that “B&B” homely feel. Recommended.

Blue Waters Inn, Speyside. The rooms are bright and breezy and spacious but the hotel is basic for the price. Of the three Speyside hotels it has the best location without doubt, all rooms face the ocean and the view is unbeatable. If you intend to sty in the north and need a “hotel” rather than a guesthouse this is your best option, enquire about the “beach cabanas”. What lets this hotel down is the food which can be described as mediocre at best, over priced and poor quality. It is a 15 minute walk over a steep hill to the nearest restaurant or civilisation so whilst a great location to stay plan on having a car rental and eating out. Tennis court but no pool.

Speyside Inn, Speyside. A 21 room hotel on the waterfront road in Speyside. Refurbished in 2004 on the cheap and has some maintenance issues. It does have two private hillside cabanas for a more rustic stay. A road passes between the hotel and the beach and it lacks the natural beauty location of Blue Waters Inn. In house restaurant (see review) and swimming pool add to comfort. 2 minute walk to nearby bars & restaurants.

Manta Lodge, Speyside. A 24 room hotel on the waterfront road in Speyside. Refurbished in 2008. A road passes between the hotel and the beach and it lacks the natural beauty location of Blue Waters Inn. Swimming pool. In house restaurant (see review) and swimming pool add to comfort. 5 minute walk to nearby bars & restaurants.

South End

Sherwood Apartments, Sherwood Park. 12 self catering style apartments set in quiet grounds with a large swimming pool. Up on a hilltop so good views and refreshing cool breeze. Courtesy transportation to pigeon point is provided. Friendly Dutch & English speaking owners. Landlocked but still recommended.

Kariwak Village, Crown Point. Holistic retreat set in its own tropical garden which includes its own herb garden for their organic restaurant. Rooms are very small but comfortable. This is something different. If you’re into yoga, massage and all things relaxing you may wish to investigate.

Tropikist, Sandy Point. An adequate little hotel. Lacks any kind of character but has a nice pool, great sunset views from the restaurant bar and convenient location. Comfortable and for the price range it’s totally fine.

Crown Point Hotel, Crown Point. Very good location, nice facilities and adequate rooms, great pool bar “cutters” menu. Good medium priced hotel. Child friendly.

Grafton Beach Resort, Grafton. Twin hotel of Le Grande Courland however this caters more to package holidays. Pool, bar, 100 rooms, the usual standard 3 star beach hotel. Can useLe Grande Facilities. You need car rental as there is nothing around here, no public transport and you are at the mercy of the Taxi drivers.

Le Grand Courland, Grand Courland Bay. The location is the best thing to be said for this hotel. Rooms are adequate and its ok but not what I would expect for a 4* price and for this price there are better alternatives. You need car rental as there is nothing around here, no public transport and you are at the mercy of the Taxi drivers.

Rex Turtle Beach, Grand Courland Bay. Recently refurbished 2* all inclusive standard 120 room hotel. Beachfront and ideal for turtle watching April - July. You need car rental as there is nothing around here, no public transport and you are at the mercy of the Taxi drivers. Standard beach hotel.

Arnos Vale Hotel, Arnos Vale. If you have a family with small children and want to spend the week snorkeling this is ideal. Nice little retreat, peaceful and quite. Basic accommodation for the price. Suitable for families.

Coco Reef, Store bay. This is appealing to some but not to all. Definitely not my taste, décor is a bit tacky however it makes a change from the normal characterless hotels. It’s expensive but it has everything you need within the grounds and even a cheesy home made beach with imported sand. Staff are friendly. In fact you could stay here and never actually see Tobago.

Basic Accommodation

Johnston’s Apartments, Store Bay. Located right on Store Bay beach these are basic self contained apartments. Very good value for two couples sharing also has use of Crown Point Hotel facilities. For this price range doesn't get much better. Perfect for young families.

Man O War Cottages, Charlotteville. Self contained wooden beach houses located in tropical gardens directly on the beach in Charlotteville. Absolutely the best location in Tobago so if you are looking for very basic self catering with no frills but in a pleasant relaxing surrounding this is definitely for you.

Miller’s Guesthouse, Buccoo Village. Cheap and cheerful this is your backpackers chance to grab a triple room and save some money. If you intend to spend all day on the beach or all night in the bar… why not stay here.

Casablanca, Buccoo Village. Similar to Millers and suitable for those looking to save. Perfect for surfers and backpackers. Slightly better rooms than Miller’s.

Caribstu says...

“I have always encouraged people to stay in Charlotteville. After nine years on this island I genuinely believe there is no better place in Tobago. The natural beauty, the ambience of village life, the best beach on the island and the relaxing surroundings. There are no hotels in Charlotteville, only guesthouse accommodation, which is not to everyone’s taste, however, everyone who has taken the chance and chosen to stay in “C’Ville” have been glad they made that choice. If you do not need to be in a hotel but would rather get away from it all, then consider one of the smaller guesthouses listed above and stay in Charlotteville.”
