Tobago Hotels
Top of the Range
Le Grand Courland, Grand Courland Bay. Fantastic location is the best thing to be said for this hotel. Rooms are adequate and its ok but for this price there are better alternatives. Not what I expect for a 4* price. Acceptable.
Hilton Tobago, Lowlands. 200 identical rooms miles from anywhere and on the windswept Atlantic coast. A Hilton is a Hilton wherever you go and a Caribbean Hilton is the same on any island. You know what you will get.
Coco Reef, Store bay. This appeals to some but not to all. It makes a change from your normal Caribbean hotel. It’s very expensive but has everything you need on grounds and even a cheesy home made beach. In fact you could stay here and never actually see Tobago.
Speyside Inn, Speyside. 21 room hotel on the waterfront road in Speyside. Recently refurbished and has some very nice rooms and private hillside cabanas. High in terms of quality of rooms but lacks the natural location of Blue waters Inn. Best in the north.
Blue Haven, Bacolet. Re-opened after serious renovation. Very nice 5* hotel just outside Scarborough. Good staff, atmosphere etc. Car rental is needed. Highly recommended.
Cuffie River Nature Resort, Runnemede. Set on the edge of the rainforest this is a birdwatchers and nature lovers retreat. Very nice rooms. Consider spending the last two days of your holiday here to really unwind. Remote and tranquil. Not suitable for children.
Mid Range
Top River Pearl, Charlotteville. Set in the village this small but cozy guesthouse has all the sights and sounds of village life. Rooms are very small but comfortable. A fantastic view, three minute walk to the beach and small café coffee house makes it an ideal retreat.
Kariwak Village, Crown Point. Holistic retreat set in its own tropical garden which includes its own herb garden for their organic restaurant. Rooms are very small but comfortable. This is something different. If you’re into yoga, massage and all things relaxing you may wish to investigate.
Tropikist, Sandy Point. An adequate little hotel. Lacks any kind of character but has a nice pool, great sunset views from the bar and convenient location. Comfortable and for the price range it’s totally fine. Convenient.
Toucan Inn, Crown Point. I would describe this 20 room hotel/inn as being cozy. It’s down side is that it’s about 15 mins walk from the beach but it has a good restaurant (Bonkers), pool and nice intimate surroundings. Suitable for families.
Charlottevillia, Charlotteville. This is a nice clean comfortable villa divided into three self catering apartments. Very much a secluded hideaway it is nestled in its own grounds where the rainforest meets the beach. Definitely the ideal place for those who do not need a hotel and are looking to get away from it all.
Blue Waters Inn, Speyside. The rooms are bright and breezy and spacious but the hotel is basic for the price. Of the three Speyside hotels it has the best location without doubt, all rooms face the ocean and the view is unbeatable. What lets this hotel down is the food which can be described as mediocre at best. Good place to stay but plan on eating out.
Crown Point Hotel, Crown Point. Currently undergoing renovation. Very good location, nice facilities and adequate rooms, great pool bar menu. Good medium priced hotel. Children friendly.
Sherwood Apartments, Sherwood Park. 12 self catering style apartments set in quiet grounds with a large pool. Up on a hill so good refreshing breeze. Courtesy transportation to pigeon point is provided. Dutch speaking owners. Landlocked but still highly recommended.
Inn on the Bay, Lambeau. This is the non family version of Toucan, 20 rooms, very much the same thing except no kids. Has a good onsite bar/restaurant. Slightly remote on Atlantic coast and car hire is needed.
Grafton Beach Resort, Grafton. Twin hotel of le Grande Courland however this caters more to package holidays. Pool, bar, 100 rooms, the usual standard 3 star beach hotel. Can use Le Grande Facilities.
Rex Turtle Beach, Grand Courland Bay. Recently refurbished 2* all inclusive standard 120 room hotel. Beachfront and ideal for turtle watching April - July. You need car rental as there is nothing around here, no public transport and you are at the mercy of the Taxi drivers. Standard beach hotel.
Arnos Vale Hotel, Arnos Vale. If you have a family with small children and want to spend the week snorkeling this is ideal. Nice little retreat, peaceful and quite. Basic accommodation for the price. Suitable for families.
Basic Accommodation
Johnston’s Apartments, Store Bay. Located right on Store Bay beach these are basic self contained apartments. Very good value for two couples sharing also has use of Crown Point Hotel facilities. For this price range doesn't get much better. Perfect for young families.
Conrado’s, Pigeon Point. Best points are quiet location very close to Pigeon Point and good sunsets. Basic accommodation.
Banana Boat, Charlotteville. Decent bed and breakfast style guesthouse located right on the beach. This is a good place to stay in the north if you intend to enjoy Charlotteville rather than Speyside. B&B, Bar & BBQ.
Man O War Cottages, Charlotteville. Self contained wooden beach houses located in tropical gardens directly on the beach in Charlotteville. If you are looking for very basic self catering without the frills but in a pleasant relaxing surrounding this is definitely for you.
Budget Accommodation
Miller’s Guesthouse, Buccoo Village. Cheap and cheerful this is your backpackers chance to grab a triple room and save some money. If you intend to spend all day on or under the water and all night in the bar… why not.
Casablanca, Buccoo Village. Similar to Millers and suitable for those looking to save. Perfect for surfers and backpackers. Slightly better rooms.
There are many low cost self catering apartments available on the island. Too many to list. If you are interested in this type of accommodation then contact me for more details.
